New York, NY - January 27, 2010 - This past Saturday, Red Bull teamed up with Mount Snow in West Dover, VT to put on this season’s second stop of the Red Bull Butter Cup series. Mount Snow was also host to the Red Bull Butter Cup series last year as seen with repeat competitors coming out to the slopes to defend their title. With a warm 40-degree bluebird day to showcase their talent, the event brought more than 1000 spectators out to watch the action.
The Am’s kicked off the day with an early morning jam session where riders showcased talent that put little distance between themselves and their pro-counterparts. Levi Gunzberg stepped up and took top honors in the Am division, followed by Cody Ellison and Sullivan Brownhill respectively.
When it came to the Pro division, the heat came quick. Shaun Murphy, best trick winner from the first Red Bull Butter Cup event at Loon Mountain, came in first with a deep bag of tricks including a solid handplant on the wallride inset of the quarterpipe. He was closely followed by Michael Ravelson who linked together a 180 butter into the Wu-Tang box 270 out to secure a second place finish. A one-footed swivel would bring Hans Mindnich in at the 3rd place spot.
Winner Shaun Murphy, 22, had plenty to say about the day. “I like the course a lot, it was super fun. The set up was a little big bigger than last year so I liked it a lot better, but it was still super skate-style so it’s nice.” The judges certainly agreed that Shaun was dialed as Matt Jagemann, the New England Sales Rep from Forum Snowboards said, “I was pumped to see such a big showing…Murphy was killing it-get that kid sponsored! The caliber of riding from everyone today was insane! Props to Red Bull, Mount Snow and Forum.”

The Red Bull Butter Cup contest series started on the East Coast but has now expanded throughout the U.S. in only its second year. Red Bull Butter Cup is all about how much style snowboarders can spread onto the custom-made features also known as "butter pads." Riders jib, bonk, tap and slide across the pads, making sure to lay it on thick with a lot of smooth buttering.Regional athletes battle it out in jam format sessions, carving and spreading the snow like butter for cash and prizes. Overall style and creativity will help the cream rise to the top, so be ready to spread it on in this purely pasteurized competition!
