With the 2009 WMA championship all but wrapped up, Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek cruised through round number seven at Southwick this weekend with her eye on the prize. Though series rival Jessica Patterson ran up front for the day, Ashley rode a smart, steady race to finish in second overall, securing an additional 42 points toward her championship total. “The track was really difficult, so I just wanted to ride a safe race and protect my points lead,” Fiolek commented from the podium. “It would have been nice to lock up the championship a race early, but Jessica rode really well today, and there was no need to do anything risky.”

Holding onto a 41-point lead as the series moves on to the final round at Steel City Raceway next weekend, Ashley can mathematically lock up her second-straight WMA championship during moto one if all goes her way. “This has been a great series for me, and I’m really excited to go to Steel City next weekend with a shot at the title.” Tune back in next weekend for a full championship recap from Delmont, Pennsylvania!
