David Coulthard faces a driving ban in India after breaking the speed limit – at a Formula One show run in Mumbai. The Scot was caught driving at more than 160mph – nearly three times a limit that has been pre-arranged with the authorities – as he sped across the new Raijiv Ghandi Sea Link bridge.

With India set to host its first F1 Grand Prix in 2011, the Scot was giving the crowd a taste of what’s to come, but admits he might have “misjudged” his speed. “I was trying to judge what 60mph would be but I have no speedometer on the car,” he said. “I spent my career driving over 200, so I am sorry if I went over the speed limit.”

“I have asked my officers to submit a report on the event,” said Satish Gavai, managing director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. “If there is anything incriminating it will be handed to the appropriate authorities.”

Meanwhile, no such limits are in place for Sebastian Vettel, who heads to Brazil looking to keep home favorite Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button from winning the driver’s title. Button needs just six points to tie up the driver’s crown, but one person who believes Vettel can beat him to it is Sebastian’s compatriot and hero, Michael Schumacher.

“Mathematically everything is still possible, and I will keep my fingers crossed for him," said the seven-time world champion. "He still has the chance to win the title and this fact alone is already a big success for him. I am sure he will do everything possible to produce a good performance in the next two races."
