The 2010 Air Nautique Wake Games wrapped up over the weekend with Dallas Friday taking the Pro Women’s win, doing her part to also secure victory for her teammates in the Team Challenge category.
In addition to the pro competition, the four-day event, which took place at the Orlando Watersports Complex, features a pro-am team challenge, grouping local amateurs with wakeboarding’s top professional athletes. All riders contributed to an overall team score, based on their performance within their own division.
The Air Nautique Wake Games also served as the kick-off event of the 2010 King of Wake series, an eight-stop tour of wakeboarding events in the U.S. that crowns overall winners in late August. Friday successfully defended her Wake Games title in Orlando, kicking off her campaign to repeat as the Queen of Wake champion in 2010.
The final day of competition began with Team Adkison and Team Harf tied for first place ahead of the remaining eight teams. With big finishes in the finals, however, Friday’s Team LaRiche came from behind to win, ending the contest with 757 points and the most first-place finishes at four.
The winning team consisted of Friday, Hunter Hanson, Tyler Heinz, Brandon Thomas, Jefferson Langley, Danny Thollander, Alyssa Rokita, Ryan Harris, Aaron Abel and captain Jimmy LaRiche.
Friday’s Red Bull teammate J.D. Webb picked up third in the Pro Men’s category, while Brian Grubb also took third in the Pro Wakeskate Finals. Grubb had won the event for four straight years, but 2009 World champ Reed Hansen got in the way of a five-peat.
The event will be broadcast on FUEL TV on June 29 at 8 p.m. EST.
