Adriano de Souza reached the Semifinals of the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, as 30 ASP World Tour surfers competed in the ASP One World Rating Event.

De Souza started the day with an emphatic win over fellow Brazilian Heitor Alves, scoring an impressive 16.27. However, the 23-year-old suffered heartbreak in the Semifinal against Chris Davidson, as he missed out on a place in the Final by just 0.40 points.

Another ASP Dream Tour surfer in action in California was Jordy Smith. The World No. 2 could only reach the Quarterfinal though, as he was beaten by eventual winner Gabe Kling.

Defeating Smith gave the American a huge boost, as he then went on to beat Andy Irons and Chris Davidson to claim the biggest crown of his career.

“This gives me so much confidence with 35 of the 45 guys from the [ASP World] tour here,” Kling said. “It’s huge for me; this is definitely the biggest win of my career. This is Lowers with the best guys, and this win is just huge.”

Lower Trestles also played host to the ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior this weekend, which was won by Andrew Doheny. The win was invaluable for the 17-year-old – who scored a massive 17.10 in the final – as the race for the inaugural ASP World Junior Tour gets underway. Evan Geiselman and Conner Coffin were on a good run until they were both defeated in the Semifinal.
