The dominating beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers emerged from the Patria Direct Open in Prague over the weekend with yet another gold medal, but it wasn’t exactly easy.
After winning their first match against Australia, the pair suffered a loss in their second to Americans Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal and had to battle their way through the elimination rounds. After dispatching two teams from Russia and one each from Georgia and Spain, Phil and Todd bested Gibb and Rosenthal in a re-match to meet up with the German team of Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the Semifinal.
After defeating the Germans, Phil and Todd faced the Brazilian duo of Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego in the Final. The Americans prevailed two games to one to take their fourth gold medal of the FIVB season so far.
The win in Prague increased their lead in the FIVB World Tour standings, with Dalhausser/Rogers sitting at 3,740 points over Alison/Emanuel at 3,020 points in second, and Brink/Reckermann in third with 3,000 points.
The SWATCH FIVB World Tour now takes a week’s break before resuming competition on June 28 in Norway for the $600,000 ConocoPhillips Grand Slam.
