WINTER PARK, CO – April 4, 2010 – Red Bull Buttercup rolled into Winter Park Resort on Easter weekend, with 50 of the region’s top riders competing for more than $2,500 in cash and prizes. Riders went head-to-head in a jam-formatted event, carving and spreading the snow like butter.
In both divisions, the riders showed they had a lot to prove. In the Open/Pro Division, Jake Larue from Breckenridge took home 1st place while Winter Park local Mikey Lucido took 2nd and 11-year-old Isaiah Woodworth from Boulder, CO in 3rd. In the Women’s Division, Rachel Gordon from Vail, CO took 1st and Lauren Weibert from St. Louis, MO took 2nd. For the Groms, 9-year-old Burton rider Redmond Gerard of Frisco, CO took first place and Andrew Berns from Boulder, CO took 2nd.
“It’s all about your creativity and all about the steeze,” said contest champion Jake Larue, after taking home the victory and $750 cash.
Special thanks to Winter Park Resort, Oakley, Burton and Red Helmets for a fantastic event.
Red Bull Buttercup is a contest series that started on the East Coast but now has expanded throughout the US in its second year. It’s all about how much style Snowboarders can spread on the custom-made board features also known as “butterpads.” Riders jib, bonk, tap and slide their way across a multi-featured pad, making sure to lay it on with a lot of smooth buttering.
