The impressive new home of the Dallas Cowboys (Cowboys Stadium) in Arlington, Texas was the site of round number 11 of the AMA Supercross series on Saturday night, and the Honda Red Bull Racing duo of Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard filled two-thirds of the podium after a hard-fought Supercross main event!
Millsaps kicked off the event looking strong and confident, as he set the second-fastest lap time during the day’s timed qualifying sessions. Feeding off of the momentum that he had built during practice, Davi dominated his heat race, taking the first Supercross win of the night by nearly 12 seconds over Yamaha’s Josh Hill.
Millsaps’ Honda Red Bull teammate, Canard, had to work a bit harder to earn his trip to the main event after a mediocre start in the heat, but crossed the checkers in the sixth spot to safely qualify.
With an enthusiastic Dallas crowd on their feet as the main event gates dropped, both Honda pilots got out to good starts, with Millsaps rounding lap one in third and Canard in sixth.
By lap five, Millsaps had made his move for the second spot and then set his sights on the leader, Ryan Dungey. Meanwhile, Canard methodically picked off one rider at a time as he worked his way up to third, and slowly began closing the gap between himself and Millsaps in second.
Despite valiant efforts, Millsaps and Canard couldn’t quite catch the leader, but finished in freight-train fashion just one second back as they crossed the checkers separated by less than a bike length!
The series moves down to Jacksonville, Florida next weekend before taking a week off for the Easter holiday.
