Motocross pioneer Robbie Maddison has another moniker to add to an ever-lengthening list of superlatives: the Best International FMX Rider for 2009.

The official title was bestowed upon the Australian Freestyle Motocross rider at the annual FMX awards.

Maddison has made history with a series of death-defying jumps, but the 28-year-old is more than just a stuntman. Last May, Maddison defeated legendary Japanese rider Eigo Sato to claim victory at the Red Bull X-Fighters in Canada.

In the FMX awards, which began in 2006 to honor the world's best freestyle motocross riders, a panel of judges nominate the riders for each category before the fans have the final say via fmxawards.com

More recently, Maddo made motorcycle history by jumping the Corinth Canal in Greece. We have the video and a gallery of the highest – and longest – jump ever attempted on two wheels.
