After a grueling, 17-race battle, the 2010 AMA Supercross series culminated at the finale in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday night, and Honda Red Bull Racing's Davi Millsaps ended the SX season with a solid sixth-place finish.
Though not the race win that Millsaps was hoping to close out the series with, the result was good enough to propel him into the third and final podium spot in the championship’s overall points standings. After starting the series a bit out of rhythm, Davi stepped up his program and ended with a total of five podium finishes, including a very impressive win in San Diego.
In Vegas, Millsaps needed a sixth or better to jump into the third position in the championship, and he did exactly that in front of a sold-out Sam Boyd Stadium crowd. After working his way up to the fourth spot during the main event, Millsaps dropped two spots due to a malfunction with his riding gear, but did well to keep things together as he held strong and fended off a pack of hungry competitors en route to the checkers.
"I'm really stoked to get out of here with third overall in points," Davi told us after the race. "It's been an up and down series for me, so to end up in third feels pretty good. I'd like to thank everybody at Honda Red Bull Racing for sticking by me and giving me the opportunity to be out here competing."
Millsaps' longtime Honda teammate, Andrew Short, had an injury-filled series that he'd rather forget, but despite his hardships, Shorty hung tough for a couple of podium finishes, and is now looking forward to better success as Supercross transitions into outdoor motocross for the summer.
The Honda Red Bull Racing crew will now take a well-deserved weekend off before kicking off the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Championship series at Hangtown in Sacramento, California.
