Top slopestyle skier Grete Eliassen tells us she has a few things lined up to surprise the fans at Winter X Games 14 next week, but also confides that one particular fan once shocked her with their own surprise request…
What’s the best thing about Slopestyle?
The course always changes – it’s not like halfpipe, where you hit the same transition every time. I like how it’s so diverse and you can literally put any type of feature down during a run.
Do you have any new tricks ready for X Games?
Actually, I've been playing around a lot at Woodward at Copper [a special training camp at Copper Mountain in Colorado] this summer and fall. I’ve been learning all about gymnastic flips and spins, so it was fun!
'I have over 4,000 Facebook friends, and I love them all!'
Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I have a lot of rituals, but I basically make up new ones every day. For example, sometimes I put my ski on my left foot before my right. Weird things like that.
What’s the most unusual thing a fan has asked you to do?
Someone asked me to marry them.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Be careful and have fun.
Who’s been your toughest opponent to date?
Sarah Burke [Canadian three-time Winter X Games gold medallist].
Who’s the first person you’ll call if you win X Games gold?
I don’t know about calls, but I’ll tell my Twitter followers.
Which character from Star Wars are you?
Padme – i.e. Natalie Portman.
How many friends do you have on Facebook?
Over 4,000, and I love them all!
If someone made a Hollywood movie of your life, who would you want to play you?
Scarlett Johansson or Cameron Diaz.
