Shaun White, Bobby Brown, Mick Fanning, Lindsey Vonn, Rajon Rondo, Ashley Fiolek, and Reggie Bush's New Orleans Saints are among those who are nominated for the 2010 ESPY Awards on July 14, 2010.
Shaun White will be the man to beat at this year’s ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, USA after the snowboarder picked up three of Red Bull’s 11 nominations.
The Winter Olympic champion has been nominated for Best Championship Performance, Best Male US Olympic Athlete and Best Male Action Sports Athlete. White faces stiff competition for the best performance award from American football star Drew Brees, swimmer Michael Phelps and basketball player Anthony Johnson.
Fellow Olympian Lindsey Vonn leads the female charge with two nominations, for Best Female Athlete and Best Female US Olympic Athlete. Motocross starlet Ashley Fiolek has also received a nomination for Best Female Action Sports Athlete.
Other Red Bull athletes to receive nominations are surfer Mick Fanning and skier Bobby Brown – who are both up against White in the best male action category – as well as Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo, who’s up for Best Play. Reggie Bush’s New Orleans Saints have also been nominated for Best Moment and Best Team.
The ESPY Awards were founded in 1993 by American sports network ESPN to celebrate Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly. The awards have traditionally been voted for by the public, but since 2004 sports experts and ESPN personalities have also been given a vote.
