MIDNIGHT MASS WAS FULL AT THE CHURCH FOR RED BULL BIG TUNE DENVER
Producer Boon Doc Defends His Crown & Earns Trip to Compete Finals
The cheers and applause boomed from The Church nightclub in Denver last night as 12 producers, beatsmiths, sound-architects, and musical chefs, all brimming with originally music, talent and the desire to take their passion to the next level in the nationally renowned producer battle, Red bull Big Tune. A crowd of over 1,000 fans turned out to enjoy the show, but also, to applaud, yell and cheer for their favorite producer.
It was the crowd’s noise which determined the victor, and after an epic showdown between “Boon Doc” and “Xperiment” the decibels reached insurmountable volumes. In the end reigning Red Bull Big Tune Denver winner, and Red Bull Big Tune National Finals runner-up, “Boon Doc”, defended his 2009 title and, once again, was crowned champion. Both producers will travel to Chicago to compete in the Red Bull Big Tune National Finals later this year.
“This year’s Red Bull Big Tune was intense! The competition was great and the crowd was hyped,” said winner Boon Doc. “Red Bull is genuine. I love everything Red Bull is a part of from Big Tune toThre3Style to BC One; it’s awesome!”
After the battle, fans were treated to a producer battle extraordinaire. Legendary hip hop producer Just Blaze, who has produced for entertainment icons such as Jay-Z and Kelis, performed and battled alongside fellow producer, BattleCat, who has produced for rap and hip hop legends Snoop Dog and Xzibit.
“I was pleasantly surprised by the talent in Denver,” said Just Blaze. “I’ve attended a few of these battles and this was one of the best.”
Red Bull Big Tune began as the brainchild of DJ/producer/emcee—Vitamin D and Hip Hop visionary/event producer –Jonathan Moore, in 2004 with the purpose of bringing emerging and established talent to the forefront. After three years of hosting thriving local battles in Seattle, they forged a creative partnership with Red Bull and the event evolved beyond a beat battle into a dynamic national producer program.
Other regional battles will be hosted in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Virginia Beach, Seattle, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Ann Arbor/Detroit. The top two producers from each city will square-off this fall at the Red Bull Big Tune National Finals in Chicago. The coveted grand prize is an opportunity to create the ultimate ‘big tune’ with an A-list artist of the winner’s choice at the prestigious Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles. Past winners have collaborated with Young Buck and Nas.
