On Saturday evening, forty street ballers brought it to the courts for the Red Bull King of the Rock, Atlanta qualifier. The one-on-one basketball tournament tested A-towns finest in a series of single elimination rounds, with only one finalist moving on to compete on the island of Alcatraz.
Central Park played host to the event, which featured a street artist and beats from Hot 107.9. As the sun went down, the competition heated up. The final bracket came down to the 2011 Atlanta qualifier, Big Lou, up against his longtime friend Chris Anderson. The scoreboard read 3-3 with only two minutes remaining. In the end, Anderson would take the title and advance to Alcatraz. “I need to be physically ready and stay athletic,” says Anderson, who played both college ball and in the pro D league in Europe. “It’s an honor to be going to Alcatraz.” The 6’6” basketball coach will bring it hard to the yard, as he represents Atlanta in the international final.
