In only his second race back after nearly two months off the bike, Andrew Short picked up right where he left off in St. Louis Saturday night, scoring himself and Team Honda/Red Bull Racing another piece of podium pie for the season.

While the fireworks erupted up front between series point rivals Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto, Short took advantage of a fairly good start just behind the pair, and soon settled into a comfortable pace in fourth, chasing Kevin Windham.

Just when it looked like the race would end that way, with just a few laps to go Villopoto came up extremely short on a triple jump, bailing off in midair and crashing violently.

Thanks to Short’s smooth and consistent pace, he was the benefactor of Villopoto’s mishap, and quickly found himself in third with just three laps remaining.

Though he admitted to being a tad out of “race shape” thanks to his two-month forced vacation, Andrew held on for the podium spot ahead of Nick Wey and Chad Reed.

Stay tuned next weekend, as the series heads back west for the Seattle round.
