On Wednesday afternoon, fifty military personnel traded their combat boots for high tops to compete in the Red Bull King of the Rock qualifier, held on base at Camp Lejune. This international basketball tournament advances the winner of each qualifier to compete against 63 finalists from 27 representing countries on the island of Alcatraz.
Tipping off in the heat of the day and ending under the lights, the Camp Lejune qualifying title went to Navy Corpsman, Sean Vincent. The single elimination battles proved to be no match for 6’3” serviceman. “This is crazy! I would have never expected, me being in the military, to have a chance to play somewhere like this (Alcatraz)!” Vincent will bring it hard to the yard at the King of the Rock finals on September 22. He plans on preparing for the competition by running, working on fundamentals, and doing everything he needs to do to succeed. We wouldn’t expect anything less from a man in uniform!
