New Orleans Hornets rookie Anthony Davis, who makes his NBA debut tonight, last week experienced the best of his new city and took fans along for the ride.
The top pick in the 2012 NBA Draft got a backstage glimpse at the VooDoo Music Experience, a multi-day music and arts festival held in the heart of the city. In a surprise to the 11,000+ fans in attendance, he came on stage and introduced Red Bull Records award-winning band AWOLNATION.
Davis also hit up a local boutique, grabbed a steak in the French Quarter and visited Lawrence Square -- the basketball court on the famed Magazine St. -- for a shoot around. Legendary hip-hop producer Mannie Fresh dropped by the court for a little 1-on-1 to welcome Davis to town.
"New Orleans is a great city -- the Big Easy," said Davis. "I'm getting familiar with where to eat and where to play, and I appreciate Red Bull hooking me into the local music and culture scenes."
It’s been a whirlwind seven months for the All-American big man, winning the NCAA title at Kentucky, going first in the NBA draft to the Hornets, and winning gold with the US men’s basketball team.
With his weekend adventure, Davis officially joins a Red Bull athlete roster of high performers including Blake Griffin, Deron Williams, Rajon Rondo, John Wall, DeMarcus Ware, Reggie Bush, Lindsey Vonn, and close to 500 others worldwide.
