Black Joe Lewis & The Honey Bears

We took notice when Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears dropped their sophomore release, “Scandalous,” this past spring. We swooned when we found out the group was bringing their soulful swing to Bonnaroo 2011. Now, we’re drooling.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears dropped “Livin’ In The Jungle” a couple of weeks ago, an ode to Southern hip-hop and culture courtesy of Mad Decent’s Derek ‘DJA’ Allen. Allen is one of the guys constantly working behind the scenes. He’s been Diplo’s right hand man on projects like Major Lazer as well as MIA’s last two albums and holds his own remixing the likes of Santigold and Passion Pit.

On “Livin’ In The Jungle,” Allen aimed at adding to his mix tape allure, putting Black Joe Lewis’ sloppy guitars and sharp horns from Scandalous next to verses from a Southern fried roster made up of Bun B, Juicy J, Yelawolf and others. You can download the red hot mix tape right here.
