On August 14th, the 2011 Red Bull King of the Rock tournament visited New England for the first time. Talented streetballers tested their one-on-one skills in the Boston qualifier at the city's William Smith Playground. Besides playing for bragging rights, there was a thousand large and a ticket to the World Finals at Alcatraz on the table.
Boston native Tony Lee successfully dominated the contest, displaying a unique combination of speed, skill, and determination. All of his opponents were sent packing except for Marius Bausys, the event's runner-up. The Lithuanian player was fresh off an eight-hour bus ride from DC, after being eliminated from that qualifier. The Boston qualifier was his fourth attempt at making it to the Rock.
Both Lee and Bausys have cemented their spots at the finals this September. Stay tuned to find out who'll be this year's King of the Rock!
