There are few things as decidedly American as NASCAR racing, and the drivers who compete on the oval are always full of energy and personality. Brian Vickers is a prime example; his lust for life is evident whether he’s behind the wheel going 200 mph or traveling the world looking for his next adventure.

After qualifying for The Chase in 2009, Vickers was amped for a solid 2010 season but got some bad news in May. He was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and left leg, and the blood thinners that he was prescribed would keep him out of the car for the rest of the season.

He’s now back in the car for 2011, primed and ready for this weekend’s Daytona 500, the kickoff of the 2011 NASCAR season. He took a little time to let us in on some of his favorite things, and even sent us a few photos of his adventures out of the car over the last year. Read on to get to know BV a little better, and be sure to root for him in Sunday’s race…

Favorite thing in your house or apartment:
Hot tub.

Favorite thing about your life:
The new perspective I have from everything I went through last year health-wise. More than anything, just in life personally and professionally, I feel like I truly appreciate living in the moment more than I ever have. I think the key to being successful for me moving forward is to just do that. Just to appreciate being in Daytona, enjoying drafting with my friends and having fun knowing that something could happen and I may not be in that car tomorrow. I think if I just do that every single day, I get on the race track and I have fun and go out there with one intention and that is to win and nothing else matters as far as from a competition standpoint. Just treat every day as if it is the last.
