Carissa Moore pauses in Mexico Brent Bielmann/Red Bull Media House North America, Inc.

The 29th Annual ASP World Surfing Awards presentation was held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre last night. Many of surfing’s upper echelon and rising young guns were on hand to see the 2011 ASP World Champions, Kelly Slater and Carissa Moore, officially crowned the 2011 King and Queen of Surfing.

Moore, 19, won the ASP Women's World Championship Award, the ASP Women's Entertainer Award and the ASP Heat of the Year award. Two of the three awards were based on the votes of her peers and fans alike.

"Last night was an unforgettable evening,” Moore commented. “Getting to share the room with all my heroes and peers and celebrate all the year’s accomplishments was an honor. I am looking forward to another amazing season."

For the first time in several years, ASP gave out a Lifetime Membership award to Hawaiian legend and icon of surfing, Larry Bertlemann. Known as the “Godfather of Surfing” to some and the “First Newschooler” to others, Bertlemann is revered worldwide for his early technical maneuvers.

Other Red Bull surfers to be honored included ASP Women’s World Runner-Up Sally Fitzgibbons, who picked up the peer-voted Surfers’ Surfer award, along with Heat of the Year for her Roxy Pro Gold Coast match-up with Carissa. Michel Bourez earned the men’s Surfers’ Surfer award, with the ASP World Rookie of the Year honor going to Julian Wilson. Wilson also earned the men’s Heat of the Year award with Kai Otton for their Rip Curl Pro Portugal battle.

Grammy Award-winning artists Wolfmother and The Vernons were the closers of the party.
