Coachella has always been known as a pre-dominantly rock culture festival. Since the inaugural run back in 1999, several of rock music’s finest artists have graced the Empire Polo Fields stage including Jane’s Addiction, Paul McCartney, Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, The Killers, Tool, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine and many more. As you gear up for this year’s Coachella, here are some acts you must check out during the three-day event.

The Three Rock Headliners

The Strokes

They played on the bill in years previous, but now The Strokes are one of the headliners for Coachella 2011. The New York City indie rock juggernaut have been wailing away since 1998 and although they went on a brief two-year hiatus, the five-piece recently returned with a vengeance as their fourth studio album, Angles, topped both Billboard’s Rock and Alternative Albums Charts.

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: As it currently stands, The Strokes are slated to play select festivals this summer with only three of them being in the United States. Perhaps more American dates will be announced in the weeks to come.

Arcade Fire

Former Coachella veterans Arcade Fire have graduated to top billing status for this year’s festival. Now, unless you’ve been living under a really big rock for the past couple of months, here is a quick update on this indie rock collective.

Arcade Fire was launched in 2001, has been dropping records since 2004 and their latest offering, The Suburbs, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The Suburbs also took home the 2011 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. It’s been a big year for the Canadian troupe and it’s about to get even bigger.

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: Arcade Fire is slated to perform throughout the Midwest and Texas up until early May, but then, they are off to Europe for the summer.

Kings Of Leon

The Kings Of Leon have been all over the media for the past few years and the next place you can catch theme is headlining Coachella. These four brothers from Nashville, Tennessee have been playing together since 1999 and it wasn’t until 2007’s Because of the Times when they skyrocketed to the top of the charts. It’s wild to see the metamorphosis the quarter has gone through. They went from being garage rock bandits to becoming stadium rocking icons in a matter of years. Now that is something special.

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: Kings Of Leon will take a month off before bringing their show across the Atlantic as they are slated to spend the summer in Europe.

The Three Others To Watch

Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World was branding their name in the late 90’s, but exploded after the turn of the century with smash hits like “The Middle,” “Sweetness” and “Pain.” The alternative rock quartet has been going strong ever since, as evident of their latest release and seventh studio album Invented. While they aren’t headlining this year’s festival, these musical veterans are deserving of that status.

If you like Jimmy Eat World, you might like: Green Day, Jack’s Mannequin, Taking Back Sunday

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: Jimmy Eat World will embark on a headlining North America Tour starting May 14 at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada and concluding June 4 at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. Then, they will spend the summer performing at festivals in Europe.

She Wants Revenge

She Wants Revenge might have a deal through Fred Durst’s Flawless/Geffen record label, but they sound absolutely nothing like Limp Bizkit. In fact, these guys are something entirely different and so original, it’s difficult to compare them to other artists.

What is unique about this dark dance rock duo (comprised of Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin) is they combine electro rhythms with a club rock vibe and a seductive flare to boot. At Coachella, tracks like “Out Of Control,” “Tear You Apart” and their new single “Take The World” will get this festival bumpin’ to a whole other level.

If you like She Wants Revenge, you might like: Blaqk Audio, Stellastarr, Interpol

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: She Wants Revenge doesn’t have a tour lined up this far, but with the release of their third studio album Valleyheart in May, plans should be announced rather shortly.

Eliza Doolittle

Eliza Doolittle might be the cutest performer at Coachella, but that isn’t the only reason to check her out. This London starlet recently burst onto the scene with her self-titled album, which turned platinum in the UK.

Soulful pop singles like “Pack It In,” “Rollerblades” and “Skinny Genes” show the singer-songwriter’s playful character and happy personality. Based off the music, it’s easy to tell that Eliza Doolittle is enjoying herself and that’s what resonates with crowds.

If you like Eliza Doolittle, you might like: Norah Jones, The Ditty Bops, Skylar Grey

Post-Coachella Tour Plans: Eliza Doolittle will be performing a few shows in California and New York right after Coachella, but then it’s back to Europe for a couple of smaller gigs and some major festivals.
