Party rockers got the weekend started early by flocking to Supperclub in Hollywood to watch eight DJs rock the dance floor while spinning three different styles of music in a 15-minute window. It was all part of Red Bull Thre3style LA.

LA’s best were selected, but it was DJ Dynamix that finally won over the crowd and the judge’s panel to walk away with the win. Dynamix will be one of three West Coast qualifying DJs who will continue on to the National Finals in Las Vegas. The winning DJ from Las Vegas will earn a position to compete at the International Finals in Vancouver, B.C.

“By mid-way through the competition I was just so nervous; my heart was racing, I was really second guessing myself from that point on,” admitted DJ Dynamix. “It feels great to battle amongst friends, and amazing DJs at that. I knew how grand of a scale Red Bull Thre3Style was, and battling alongside cats like Risk One, D-JR, As Is and Expo, made me step up my game. I thought everybody was amazing.”

As hosts for the night’s competition, Mr. Choc and DJ Hapa kept it light and fun, chopping it up in between sets. DJ Morse Code provided the opening set and DJ Spider closed out the night with a killer set. Competing DJs Bakdraft, Dynamix, Cassie Stevens, Bobby French, Risk One, D-JR, As Is and Expo not only had to keep the crowd on their side, they were also playing to impress judges Rhettmatic, DJ Spider, Destructo aka Gary Richards and Morse Code. Behind winner DJ Dynamix, D-JR came in second and DJ Expo placed third.

Red Bull Thre3Style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a platform to battle, perform, gain notoriety and express themselves in a party atmosphere. Unlike other DJ battles that are based on more technical aspects, it is a creative and unique format that seeks to find the DJ that has best perfected the true art of “party rockin’.” The eight competing DJs fight for the crowd’s favor in their 15 minute sets, which MUST contain at least three different musical genres. Their performances are then judged by music industry professionals who select the winner based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.
