DJ LayzeeBoy won an electrifying Red Bull Thre3Style battle at the sold out Brighton Music Hall in Boston on Thursday.
LayzeeBoy, who finished third in last year’s competition, won over the judges by playing sets that mixed modern pop hits, old school rap and dubstep.
Red Bull Thre3Style is a unique DJ competition that gives each contestant 15 minutes to seamlessly mix at least three different genres of music. DJ’s must show off exemplary mixing skills while also keeping the dance floor rockin’.
Braun Drapper finished second and Frank White was third out of eight local DJ’s. The evening was hosted by Akrobatik of The Perceptionists, and DJ Mick Boogie headlined the event, playing a raucous set.
All the DJ’s proved to be different and unique in their own right. Even though they operated under the same guidelines – from mixing styles, scratching, music selection, to crowd interaction – some were more in the zone, focusing intently on their turntables, while others rocked out just as hard as the crowd as they spun their magic.
But winner DJ Layzee Boy, the previous DMC World Champion, the world’s largest DJ Competition, was in no mood to take a back seat.
The next Red Bull Thre3Style will be in Washington, DC., If you’re in the area, be sure to check it out!
