More than 300 spectators hit Ontario Beach Park in Rochester, New York, on Saturday to witness 42 local amateur skaters go head-to-head in the legendary skateboarding competition Red Bull Manny Mania. Despite Mother Nature’s attempts, puddles and gray skies couldn't derail the Rochester skating community from participating in the biggest local skating event of the year.
Rochester resident Japhey Dow, 19, won over the judges with a switch 180 nose manual nollie big spin out, landing him in first place.
Dow not only won the respect of the crowds and the skating community, but he also earned the honor of representing the region at Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania for the U.S. National Finals on July 21. There, he’ll fight tooth and nail for the chance to compete in the Red Bull Manny Mania World Finals on August 18 in New York City.
Andy Geary, of Warren, Pennsylvania, and Marvin Gaye, of Sodus, New York, took to the podium to claim their spots as the second- and third-place finishers.
