Travis Rice joins Oracle Team USA in San Francisco Guilain Grenier/Oracle Team USA

Snowboarder Travis Rice was able to show off his sailing skills Thursday as he joined Oracle Team USA in San Francisco during the first stop of the 2012-'13 America's Cup World Series.

Travis has made no secret of his love of sailing and recently embarked on an Atlantic Ocean odyssey from Chesapeake Bay to Granada, but nothing could prepare him for the “mind blowing” experience of joining skipper Jimmy Spithill and crew on board the Oracle Team USA AC45 vessel.

“Compare these boats to mine? There’s no comparison,” laughed Travis, whose film "The Art of Flight" will get the 3D treatment this year. “For one, they go four to five times faster. Second, it’s me captaining my boat, whereas these guys actually know what they’re doing. I just kind of pretend.”

“I’m a big fan of Spithill and this series – this was a dream come true,” Travis said. “These guys are all peak performers, the best of the best. And I probably learned some bad habits out there. When you’re just cruising, you want to kind of play it safe. Getting out on the AC45, feeling the acceleration…it’s going to be hard to keep her slow and safe.”

Check out the video below and watch the snowboarding sensation come up close and personal with elite sailing as he gets to grips with the rigging.

You can watch the America's Cup World Series match racing final Sunday on NBC starting at 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. PDT.
