Gabriel Medina landed his first backflip yesterday in Hawaii. According to Surfline, the 18-year-old Brazilian surfer, who arrived on the North Shore of O'ahu three days ago, began attempting the trick around noon.

Flynn Novak is widely credited with originating the backflip -- calling it the "Flynnstone Flip" -- a few years ago after eight long years of experimentation. But it's still a very rare occurrence. Medina landed his shortly after noon on Monday. Witness the greatness...
