Just when the residents thought their Downtown Los Angeles streets were getting a break after a weekend of action sports mayhem in the form of the summer X Games, Hard Summer Music Festival invades the mean streets with its incredible music line-up, featuring Duck Sauce, Boys Noize, Chromeo, Ratatat, Skrillex, Odd Future, Diplo, Digitalism and a boat-load more.
Held at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, near the Chinatown district, 30-plus performers are going to be ripping it up on four stages. But before you go and party your brains out, here are four dos and four don’ts from Hard’s mastermind, Gary Richards (aka DJ Destructo), to help you rock out, proper.
Hard Summer Music Festival Dos
Do use public transit. We were able to extend the Gold and Red Line hours for Hard Summer. Instead of closing at 12 midnight, the city extended the two rail lines’ hours past the event closure to accommodate the crowd. Take advantage of this to save time. Parking and traffic are going to be a nightmare.
Do make it to all four stages to see the different performances! The DFA tent will have disco, the Harder stage features dub step and the Summer and Hard stages will have electronic music, with the Hard stage hosting all of the live performances (Chromeo, Ratatat, Odd Future, and more).
Do use the line-up chooser at hardfest.com to learn about new artists. It’s under the “Set Times” tab. Pick the performers you want to see and the line-up chooser will work out a custom schedule just for you.
Do take your picture in front of the brand new Hard Summer digital sign. Like everything we do, it’s going to be big.
Hard Summer Music Festival Don’ts
Don’t come late. The lines will get crazy. Doors open at 6 pm, so try to show up by then. If you’re good, we may even open the doors a bit earlier.
Don’t miss Gesaffelstein from Paris, France, and Siriusmo from Berlin, Germany -- it’s both of their debut performances in L.A. They’re the artists I’m most excited to see.
Don’t bring your glowsticks or come dressed with kandi. Make sure you check all of Hard's restricted items list. We work closely with law enforcement to keep our festival safe; LAPD has identified many surprising items as potential dangers. We’d hate for you to bring stuff that we don’t allow in. Visit hardfest.com/news/hard-summer-2011/#security for the complete list.
Don’t wear inadequate clothes or shoes. The event is outdoors so you want to dress to stay warm and dance comfortably all night long!
