Blink-182 held a kick off party at the Rainbow Bar & Grill to announce they will be headlining the 2011 Honda Civic Tour with My Chemical Romance.
“It’s great to be going back out on the Honda Civic Tour,” Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus released in a statement, “We had a blast kicking off the tour ten years ago, and this summer we’ll be taking it to the next level with our friends in My Chemical Romance.” Indeed! Blink 182 tore it up on the very first Honda Civic Tour 10 years ago in 2001.
Not only will My Chemical Romance be supporting on the tour, but the band will be joined by Manchester Orchestra, Matt & Kim, Against Me! and Rancid playing select dates.
New Blink-182 Album
The big question of the night for Blink 182: When will your new album be done?
“We absolutely have to turn the record in by July 31st. That’s the rule,” Hoppus told an MTV News reporter amid a throng of media outlets in attendance at the kick off party. He says the band is in fact only 70% of the way done, “At this point, we’ll be ready to turn it in mid-September.”
Ever the optimist, Hoppus admitted to a Fox News reporter the album prognosis isn’t really so bleak, “It’s about 3/4 of the way done. I was actually in the studio today singing. It’s really cool and I like the way it’s coming together.”

The good news: Members of the Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance fan clubs will have access to exclusive pre-sale tickets on Monday, June 6! Tickets don’t go on sale to the general public until June 10. But if you LIKE the tour on Facebook, you’ll get access to a presale on Wednesday, June 8.
If Blink-182’s Tom Delonge’s promises are true, the stage set-up shouldn’t be anything less than spectacular. And probably laser beams.
“I don’t really know what it’s going to look like,” Tom replied when asked by MTV News what the stage will look like for the tour, “I know for a fact that whatever Travis’ drums do, I’ll be on that with him, holding onto him or something, as he’s spinning around. Whatever it is. Or inside him. I might actually be inside him. But this is exciting, the whole record, the tour, it’s gonna be a blast, so we’re excited. It’s gonna be a great summer.”
Honda Automobiles on Display
At each stop on the tour fans will have the opportunity to check out one-of-a-kind Honda vehicles that have been personally customized and autographed by the bands. The vehicles were on display at the Rainbow. Blink 182’s custom designed a 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe adorned with the Blink-182 Bunny, and My Chemical Romance’s custom designed a Honda CBR250R Motorcycle. The party was the first time My Chemical Romance had seen the bike inperson. They were duly impressed.

Honda, Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance have each engaged in programs in support of the victims of Japan’s Great East Japan Earthquake and massive Tsunami. Blink-182 recently introduced a limited-edition T-shirt at with 100% of profits benefiting relief efforts. My Chemical Romance created a song available at all digital retailers, with band and label proceeds going to the American Red Cross.
Inside the Kickoff Party, notable guests included That 70’s Show/Take Me Home Tonight star Topher Grace looking fashionable in red flannel, Transplants’ singer Rob Aston and members of the UK arena rock band Lostprophets Luke Johnson and Stu Richardson.
