James Stewart with design by Eon at Red Bull Rubber and Sole Red Bull Rubber and Sole

James Stewart is looking for the next design to appear on his Nike boots, so a design competition called Red Bull Rubber & Sole was launched to solicit new ideas. James met with the design teams on March 11th before the Indianapolis Supercross race, narrowing the field down to his two favorite submissions.

That's where you come in. James needs help to decide between his top two design choices, and he wants you to help. His picks are below; check them out and vote for the one you prefer via text message, and look for James to be rocking the design at the St. Louis Supercross race on April 9.

Seven designers, hailing from Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit and Chicago met with James at Got SOLE? Boutique in Indianapolis; the remaining five designs appear below after James' top two picks (remember, you can only vote on the first two). The winner will be selected soon, so vote via text today! About the Designer

Name:
Eon Rodrigo

School:
Art Institute of Michigan

Years designing:
Attended two years at The Art Institute of Michigan, and I've been designing since I was 12, so that’s 9 years.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by anything and everything that's around me. I'm inspired by world events. I'm inspired by the unique and different cultures this world has to offer. I'm inspired by the people I surround myself with, which I call family and friends. I'm inspired by people who chase their dreams and against all odds, they still manage to achieve them. I am inspired by the thought that one day I can change the world and make an impact through my art. I am inspired by love.

What’s the story behind your design?
The story behind my design is to portray James Stewart - not only for his achievements, but also where he came from and what he's all about. The outline of the sole encompasses all of his championship titles and towards the end reads "and beyond" - which, of course, represents all his future achievements.

The lines/swirls on the bottom of the sole represent the twists and turns he endured throughout his professional career (with injuries and mishaps) and also throughout his lifetime. Not just that, it also symbolizes a supercross track. A few icon illustrations are in the sole which include “1985” - the year James Stewart was born; a helmet that reads "Bubba" on the visor (which also symbolizes how he sees the world through his eyes - "Bubba's Vision"); a map of Florida – it’s always important to know where you came from; the 24/24 represents the perfect season he achieved by winning 24 out of 24 races; the JS7 logo to give it that authenticity; and last but not least the "259 ->7" typography which shows the dedication he made to a childhood friend who got injured wearing the 259 number. He let his friend know that he would ride that number all the way to the top, which he did and eventually turned into number 7 - his current jersey number to date. That pretty much shows the type of man James Stewart is and shows the content of his character.

What inspires you?
Almost everything around me inspires me. Life, art, daily commutes, etc. Even the smallest of details will spark a new set of ideas.

What’s the story behind your design?
I wanted to do a minimalistic shoe that embodies what James Stewart truly represents. I admired his relentless nature to overachieve despite how the odds are stacked. This shoe represents his passion, strength, tenacity, and humility. I wanted to approach the shoe with hidden ways of exhibiting those very characteristics. I did not want to plaster his face or some motorcross graphics on the shoe. It’s a quiet statement of how he composes himself on and off the track. True ambition is often mildly displayed.

Once again, text "Sole01" to 72855 to vote for Eon Rodrigo's "Perfect Season", or text "Sole02" to vote for Kevin McCoy's "Minimalistic", both pictured above.
