Reigning AMA Hare & Hound Champion Kendall Norman came into the 2011 season looking to repeat his domination of the series, but after sustaining a minor knee injury prior to round one, Kendall has been forced to watch the racing from the sidelines.

Last weekend, however, the Santa Barbara native returned to compete at round six in typical form, mastering the grueling 80-mile Lucerne Valley course to claim victory.

A mid-pack start hindered Norman’s forward progress in the opening minutes, but the desert ace put his head down and charged through the thick dust to come within seconds of the leaders by the halfway mark.

On loop two, Norman pulled the trigger, putting his Red Bull/JCR-backed Honda out front to take a healthy lead over points leader Kurt Caselli.

“It feels great to get back to the series now that my knee is healed up,” said Norman following the race. “It was an emotional win for me, as my friend passed away at this event last year, so this win was for him.”

Kendall will now set his sights on the remaining four rounds of the AMA Hare & Hound series before beginning preparations for the SCORE Tecate Baja 500, held on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula.
