Media Candy has the best in downloadable and streamable sweetness -- dive in every Tuesday.
This week, we’ve got plenty to share with an entire stream from Jack White, new singles from A$AP Rocky, Beach House and the Walkmen as well as a round of applause for Coachella broadcasting the entire festival this past weekend to 7+ million viewers at home.
Jack White Streams Debut “Blunderbuss”
Since the demise of the White Stripes and the introduction of Jack White the solo artist, the Detroit-born guitar virtuoso has gone from an elusive artist to shockingly public performer. He’s sat down with the New York Times, opened up to NPR and is taking part in American Express’ “Unstaged,” which will boast Oscar-nominated actor Gary Oldman directing a live stream of his upcoming set at New York’s Webster Hall.
On April 24, White’s debut solo disc “Blunderbuss” (pre-order) hits the shelves and a lengthy tour (with plenty of festival stops) begins. Believe it or not, the tried-and-true businessman is streaming the entire album via iTunes starting today and up until it’s official release date.
Beach House Premieres Record Store Day Single
Record Store Day, happening this Saturday worldwide, is slated to be bigger than ever this year. It’s even launching its own independent chart in the UK, which will be based entirely on physical record sales in independent stops. Baltimore-based two-piece Beach House is one of the many artists taking part. Via Twitter, Beach House posted their RSD single “Lazuli,” which is also rumored to be included on their upcoming full length “Bloom,” due May 15 via Sub Pop.
A$AP Rocky Debuts Major Label Single “Goldie”
Last November, we professed our love for A$AP Rocky and shared his heavily-rotated mixtape “LiveLoveA$AP.” Since then, the Harlem-based rapper has been riding a massive wave of momentum, collaborating with Lana Del Ray and he’s rumored to be releasing his major-label debut “LongLiveA$AP” with RCA this Fourth of July.
Lead single “Goldie” has surfaced with production by fellow up-and-comer Hit-Boy (otherwise known as “the guy who did “N***as in Paris”). Stream / download the track below.
The Walkmen Share New Single “Heaven”
A few weeks back, the Walkmen announced their latest album “Heaven” would drop June 5 via Fat Possum Records. Quite the surprise! Now, the boys are sharing both a quick-hit album trailer (above) and lead single of the same name (below).
Coachella Streams Entire Festival to Nearly 7 Million Viewers
In terms of sheer size, Coachella ranks in the top three of North American festivals alongside Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. What separates the desert-centric spectacle in Indio, California, is the capacity to sell out two star-studded yet identical weekends of debuts and reunions; the West Coast clout that breeds backstage celebrity showings; and the option to skip the heat and watch the whole thing from the comfort of your couch.
It wasn’t all about raising a holographic Tupac from the grave or Amon Tobin’s groundbreaking structure, but allowing 6-million-plus viewers to view entire streaming sets of nearly every performance at Coachella. It’s not a shockingly novel concept, but Coachella’s execution will set the bar for Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza later this summer.
