Last night, eight of Boston’s freshest freestyle MCs headed to the Royale to battle it out at Red Bull EmSee but only one walked away the champion. In a night filled with piercing punch lines and lyrical acrobatics, MCs Rage 617, D MAT, Resurch, Sir Locksley, Day Parks, Chilla Jones and One Life came ready to throw down, but it was Pat G’s quick wit and lyrical flow that earned him a spot at Red Bull EmSee national finals in Atlanta later this fall.

Rap Heavyweights
Last night’s battle, hosted by rapper Bun B, was judged by a panel of hip-hop heavyweights including Rakim, Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae much to the delight of the crowd, but it also proved to be a humbling experience for the winning battle rapper. “The situation only humbled me. There is still work to do. I want the whole thing.” Said Pat G following his victory.
In between rounds, fans and competing MCs were treated to special performances by the judges but it was Rakim’s conclusion of the night that really got the crowd hyped.

Choose Your Hip-Hop Producer
If Pat G indeed wins the national finals, he will be heading into Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica to work with a producer of his choice from a select panel. But first, he’ll have to go up against some of the best freestyle MCs from around the country.
The next Red Bull EmSee battle will be hosted in D.C. on October 24, 2011 at The Fillmore. For more event information, visit www.redbull.com/EmSee.
