More than 3,000 residents of Florida's Flagler Beach made their way onto the pier and lined the beach on a surprisingly chilly Florida evening to witness Red Bull Night Riders on Saturday. This is the first time the nighttime tow-at event took place on the southeastern coast as part of the Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic.
Spectators watched in the dark under the moon and stars as six of the best east coast surfers pushed the limits of their sport in a new and challenging environment. In the end it was New Smyrna flyboy Eric Geiselman who prevailed over the rest and took home the goods.
With great conditions, Eric Geiselman posted a winning score of 9.17 out of a possible 10 points. “I’m so pumped right now, I can’t even believe it,” expressed Geiselman. “Who would’ve thought we’d be doing a tow-at at night under crazy UFO lights? I’m psyched, man.”
Completing the roster for the evening were Aaron Cormican, Cody Thompson, Alek Parker, Ryan Briggs and Jesse Heilman. All of the surfers admitted to having their nerves rattled by the thousands of fans who gathered to watch from the stadium-like atmosphere of the Flagler Pier.
