DJ Dynamix has been here before. He's been in front of a packed house and held up the Red Bull Thre3Style trophy for winning the Los Angeles regional qualifier. He won last year and wearing the crown of regional champion is no longer enough.
“I’m hungry for that world title," he said, "and I know to get there I need to get past Nationals, and there are some really good DJs that will be competing. The caliber of talent at Red Bull Thre3style is phenomenal.”
Red Bull Thre3Style is a unique competition in that DJs are required to mix three different styles of music in one seamless set. The L.A. qualifier was held in front of a crowd of 800 at the Playhouse Hollywood on Wednesday night. Eight DJs from the West Coast stepped up to the stage to present their 15-minute sets.
“When I saw the line-up I knew from the get-go that I needed to prepare four times harder this year," said Dynamix. “I came into it just hoping to do a good set, and I didn’t know what the outcome would be, but I’m stoked."
Behind Dynamix, DJ Compose from Hawaii secured second place and Kid Cut Up from L.A. took third. This will be Dynamix’s second attempt at the national crown at the Red Bull Thre3Style National Finals.
The winner of the Red Bull Thre3Style National Finals will continue on to battle against DJs from all over the globe at the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Chicago, which is where Dynamix hopes he'll reign.
But for one night, he savored the victory.
He said, "I’m overwhelmed and just filled with all kinds of emotion right now."
