Over 800 Chicagoans flocked to The Mid supporting eight of the top party DJs compete for the title of Red Bull Thre3tyle champion. Unlike other DJ battles that are based on more technical aspects, this is a creative and unique format that seeks to find the DJ that has best perfected the true art of how to “rock the party.”
After a whole night of rocking new variations of upbeat music, new and old, it was Chicago-native Big Once who was named the winner and will represent Chicago in the national finals in Las Vegas this November.
“I felt good about tonight’s competition, and felt good about my set,” said Big Once about his overall competition strategy. “I feel it’s important to be comfortable for who you are as a DJ and just be yourself,” he continued. “Now I need to just solidify Chicago’s place into the Global Finals.”
Finishing in second and third place were DJ Trentino and Zebo.
Other competing DJs who rocked the house included Charlie Glitch, Matt Roan, Marco Morales, DJ Jem, and Jay iLLa. Also playing a major role in the event were party-scene of CHI staple Hollywood Holt as host, and judges Catchdubs, Chuck Flask and the renown Craze, who performed a special set to conclude the night.
About Red Bull Thre3Style
Red Bull Thre3Style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a platform to battle, perform, gain notoriety and express themselves in a party atmosphere. Eight of the top local DJs fight for the crowd’s favor, each with a 15 minute set that MUST contain at least three different musical genres. A panel of music industry judges selects the winners based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.
Red Bull Thre3Style is an international event series that made its U.S. debut in 2010; this year the series features qualifying events across the United States. The top DJs from each qualifier will earn a spot in the National Finals being held in Las Vegas in November. The winner from the National Finals will then go on to compete in the International Final in Vancouver, B.C. in December. More than 100 qualifying events will take place throughout the world this year, with only 8 DJs making the final cut to compete in the World Finals.
