Welcome to Red Bull’s weekly rock music bulletin, where we will be recalling some of the biggest and most unforgettable moments in the culture, as well as dish out exclusive news bits.
Reclaiming the Charts
The “kings” want their thrones back! After being knocked off the #1 spots, the Foo Fighters have re-claimed the top position on the Alternative, Hard Rock and Rock Albums Charts with their seventh studio album “Wasting Light.” Additionally, their smash single “Rope” remains #1 on the Rock Songs Chart for the 17th consecutive week.
But the Dave Grohl-fronted troupe isn’t the only band making a return to grace. Mumford & Sons re-claims the #1 spot on the Folk Albums Chart with “Sigh No More.”
Rise Against is taking a stand against bullying! The group, who has been tearing up the rock charts with their hit “Help Is On The Way,” teamed up with the ‘It Gets Better Project’ on their new video “Make It Stop.” Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the clip depicts individuals from the LGBT community coping with bullying from their peers in a high school setting as the band performs inside the gymnasium to an empty crowd.
Intertwined in the video are snippets from various youtube users, all of whom share their story in an effort to let people know that, eventually, “it gets better.”
This is the second consecutive video where Rise Against cleverly uses their music to send a powerful message of hope. This is the type of stuff that can make a band legendary.
The Caravan Festival
The Dave Matthews Band Caravan Festival officially kicks off this weekend. The festival -- first of four three-day events -- launches June 24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and features 41 acts including The Flaming Lips, O.A.R., Guster, Fitz & The Tantrums, Amos Lee and many more. Also, headliners Dave Matthews Band will be last band to perform every night.
The second Caravan festival takes place Lakeside in Chicago, Illinois from July 8 through July 10, followed by a third installment at Governor’s Island in New York, New York from August 26 through August 28, and the final one taking place at The Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington from September 2 through September 4. This will be your only chance to see Dave Matthews Band in 2011, so reserve your tickets immediately.
Everland with InVogue Records
Over the past month, InVogue Records has made a lot of noise by adding pop-punk band City Lights and electro-pop duo Challenger! to their musical family.
Now, the label has beefed up their roster even more as rock ‘n rollers Everland have signed to the label. The Italian quartet will release their self-titled debut album in the fall. More details to come in the weeks ahead.
Against Me! “White Crosses” Album
Against Me! Is returning in a big way. The punk rock outfit will be re-issuing last year’s smash album “White Crosses” off their newly formed label Total Treble Music on July 26th. There is, however, a bit of a twist. It’ll be a 28-track collection broken down in two parts. The first part, entitled “White Crosses,” features the original 10-track “White Crosses” album in its entirety plus four bonus tracks.
As for the second part, which is entitled “Black Crosses,” it will be comprised of previously unreleased tracks with some of them being acoustic. Following a summer on the road with Blink 182, Against Me! will head to the studio to record their sixth studio album.
Nirvana’s Nevermind Album
Nirvana revolutionized music in 1991 when they released “Nevermind.” Now, twenty years later, the landmark album is getting the royal treatment in the form of a massive 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.
The box set, which will be released September 19, will contain four CDs and one DVD. In addition to the “Nevermind” album, the discs will also contain previously unreleased tracks, rare live recordings, B-side, mixes and radio appearances. The DVD portion will feature an unreleased live concert in its entirety. It’s been two decades, but Nirvana is still finding ways to entertain us.
My Tiger My Timing
My Tiger My Timing want every day to be summer. The South London female-fronted indie pop quintet have released the video to their new single “Endless Summer,” a cumbersome seasonal smash with an immensely addicting hook.
It will appear on their sophomore EP, which shares the same namesake, and is scheduled to drop in mid-July.
In the meantime, get addicted to “Endless Summer.”
