Scott Redding secured his first ever Moto2 podium as he came third behind Toni Elías in the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
The initial race was red flagged after two separate crashes on the first lap which meant it was shortened to 17 laps when restarted. Shoya Tomizawa and Michael Ranseder were unable to join their fellow riders in the second race due to physical and mechanical issues respectively.
After the race restarted Elías enjoyed a close battle with Julián Simón, while Redding kept up the pace in third. Pole sitter Simón was passed by Elías with six laps to go and the Spaniard held on to claim victory.
In the last couple of laps Redding lost time on the front two. However, he did enough to hold off the challenge of Andrea Iannone to secure his maiden pole.

Meanwhile in the 125s, Marc Marquez’s lead in the overall standings has been cut to four points after he finished 10th in Indianapolis.
After enjoying a dominant weekend, it looked like the Spaniard was on his way to an easy victory as he raced into an early lead – at one stage 2.5 seconds clear of Nico Terol in second. However, a crash at turn 10 cost him dear as Terol capitalised to pick up the win.
Marquez fought back bravely though. Having dropped all the way to 14th place, the Red Bull-backed rider got back on his bike to finish fifth, although a penalty meant he finished 10th.
