Saturday has become the greatest day this week, as Smashing Pumpkins just announced it will play Red Bull Sound Select's 120 Hours in Austin.
The seminal rock band fronted by Billy Corgan will close out five days and nights of performances, starting tonight with Best Coast, the dreamy California beach rockers, headlining the Red Bull Sound Select stage outside Gatsby's downtown.
Best Coast will be supported by emerging L.A. group Beach Party, which was selected to open the night through fan voting on the Red Bull Sound Select website.
Red Bull Sound Select is focused on connecting artists and fans to help them discover, create, and most importantly, break music. Master P, John McCauley and Friends (featuring Deer Tick) and Geto Boys will headline the other nights in Austin.
Smashing Pumpkins, who are still riding high off their 'Oceania' album, will play Saturday, March 16 at a secret location. The group just announced dates for its upcoming world tour, which will take them through North America, Europe, Britain and Japan. After Austin, they'll hit Mexico on March 23 and then Florida.
