Spinser Tracy, a former marching band drummer, began DJing just two years ago. Turns out he's a natural, because on Wednesday night he outbattled seven other top DJs to win the Red Bull Thre3Style regional qualifier in Washington, D.C.

A crowd of more than 1,000 packed the floor of the newly-renovated Howard Theatre on Wednesday night for the second Red Bull Thre3style battle to hit the city. Eight local DJs put down their best mixes, aiming for audience admiration. At Red Bull Thre3style, DJs throw down 15-minute sets, during which they’re required to mix, seamlessly, three different genres of music.

The evening was hosted by BET personality and producer Jabari Johnson and featured Geometrix, Alizay, Tech, Trayze, KC, Amen Ra, and Phlipz as well as a set by headliner DJ Mayer Hawthorne.

The DJs delivered one electrifying set after another. All the participants proved their seemingly flawless technical skills, as they effortlessly transitioned from one banger to another, playing off and increasing the energy of the crowd. But it was Spinser Tracy’s closing set that left the crowd cheering and the judges impressed.
