MLG pro gaming team Status Quo in action Red Bull

Having emerged as one of the most dangerous and elite Halo teams in an amazingly short time, MLG gaming team Status Quo is ready to kick off the 2011 season with more than their skills on their side.

Thanks in part to his self-described “sneaky” playing style, Status Quo member Ian “Enable” Wyatt earned his wings back in November, joining the Red Bull family before finishing a career-best second at the National Championships. Effective today, Enable is now joined by the rest of his Status Quo teammates – Ace, Flamesword and Assault – who now each hold a spot on Red Bull’s elite gaming roster.

NFL. NBA. MLB. MLG?

If you’re unfamiliar with the last of the three-letter acronyms above, here’s what it stands for: Major League Gaming. As in the organization responsible for turning video games into a sanctioned sport.

Like any good sports organization, the MLG hosts a variety of tournaments throughout the U.S. and Canada and their logo even carries the mandatory blue, white and red with the silhouette of a PlayStation game controller. With a variety of titles offered on the altar of competition in the past, the 2011 pro circuit consists of STARCRAFT 2, CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS and HALO: REACH. The latter is arguably the most competitive of the organization, with team Status Quo as one of its elite.

Like all good stories, the tale of Status Quo didn’t start off at the top, and while their success was quick, it didn’t come overnight. Try a year. After achieving pro status in 2008, Status Quo’s first full season in 2009 was a tumultuous one.

Members came and went, and their rocky roster resulted in a best finish at a Halo tournament no higher than 7th – making them a top-eight team, but nowhere near championship status. The future looked uncertain for Status Quo.

null Red Bull

The following year, 2010, saw a huge turnaround for the team. With a static roster consisting of Ace, Assault, Enable and Flamesword, the team started to gel, finishing 4th at the Orlando, Columbus and Raleigh MLG rounds.

Their true potential shined at the 2010 MLG National Championships, held in Dallas, Texas. There, Status Quo would make it into the finals, competing against Final Boss, a seasoned team with three championships under their belt.

Despite a valiant effort, Status Quo was left with a more-than-respectable second-place overall finish, cementing them as the hottest new top-tier Halo team.

With the 2011 season about to get under way in Dallas from April 1-3 and with Red Bull as their latest sponsor, look for Status Quo to start their championship hunt.

For hardcore fans, Status Quo will be printing and handing out 100 limited-edition shirts at each MLG round that are event specific with a unique design. Each member of Status Quo will only have 25 to give, so good luck copping one!
