Fresh off of clinching his second Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in the premier 450 class just two weeks ago in New York, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey cruised into the penultimate round of the series in Delmont, Pennsylvania feeling calm and relaxed.
Having the number one plate safely on lockdown obviously wasn’t enough to make him show mercy on his colleagues, however, as RD came out swinging the second the gates dropped at Steel City Raceway. By the end of the day he had racked up his ninth straight overall win with yet another dominant 1-1 performance.
In the 250 class, Dungey’s Red Bull KTM teammates Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin finished the day in second and fifth place overall, respectively, and look to have top-five finishes in the championship points chase all but guaranteed as they head to the series finale next weekend in Lake Elsinore, California.

Dungey’s seventh holeshot of the series propelled him to the front of the pack to kick off 450 moto one, and he proceeded to lead all 15 laps of the moto to score the win, over 31 seconds ahead of Andrew Short in second.
In moto two, a mediocre start and light rain showers made things a bit more difficult for the newly-crowned champ, but he methodically moved his way into second by lap four and immediately began chipping away at Mike Alessi’s lead.
After overcoming a few mistakes on the slick Steel City circuit while chasing down Alessi, RD eventually made his way into the lead on lap 11, cruising in for the moto and overall wins.

Ken Roczen sampled the sweet taste of victory two weeks ago at Unadilla by taking the moto one win in the 250 class (his first outdoor moto win in the States), and came into Steel City more motivated than ever to bag his first overall of the series.
Unfortunately for K-Roc, Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac was on a different planet on Saturday as he railed around the fast Pennsylvania circuit en route to a clean moto sweep, but the talented young German still battled his way to second overall honors with impressive 3-2 moto finishes.
Roczen has one last shot at claiming a 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross overall win next weekend at the series finale in California.

Two-time MX2 world champion Marvin Musquin turned a lot of heads as he and his potent Red Bull KTM battled to the overall win at Unadilla just two weeks ago (his first win in the U.S.), but unfortunately for the likeable Frenchman he wasn’t able to back it up at Steel City.
Musquin threw down respectable lap times to qualify fourth in the morning’s timed practice sessions, but just wasn’t able to find a groove during the motos to make a play on the leaders. Still, respectable starts led to consistent 5-5 moto scores for fifth overall on the day.
