Nick Goepper made the most of his rookie X Games Aspen appearance in 2012, skiing all the way to a Slopestyle silver medal. Not bad for a guy who didn’t even grow up in a ski town, but rather rural Indiana. He did himself one better on Sunday at X Games Aspen 2013, climbing another rung on the podium to gold.

Goepper’s third run sealed the win, and included a 270 on, pretzel 270 out of the first down rail; a hand drag Japan over the rainbow; a switch 270 on, pretzel out of the down box; and a switch on, switch up, backside 270 out of the flat-gap-to-down box in the upper section of the course.

His jump line featured a left double cork 1080 tailgrab; a right double cork 1260 tailgrab; a switch left double cork Japan; and a switch right double misty 1260 mute grab.

In the Women’s Ski Slopestyle competition, three-time defending gold medalist Kaya Turski ran into some uncharacteristic troubles, going down in her first two runs. Turski, who also holds three gold medals from X Games Tignes, rallied in run three and made her way from last place to the podium, finishing in the silver-medal position.

Snowmobile Best Trick

Daniel Bodin earned two gold medals at X Games Aspen 2011, taking the top spots in both Snowmobile Freestyle and Best Trick. While training for X Games 2012, however, Bodin suffered a broken neck, and doctors were unsure if he’d ever ride again.

Thankfully, with a strong will and drive to get back on the sled, Bodin made a triumphant return on Sunday, throwing a perfect Indian air backflip over a 100-foot gap to reclaim Snowmobile Best Trick gold.

Bodin’s Red Bull teammate Levi LaVallee started X Games Aspen strong with two gold medals in Snowmobile Freestyle and Speed & Style, but withdrew from the remaining events, Best Trick and SnoCross, on Sunday morning after tearing a muscle in practice.
