Local artists mentor and pass on techniques to Philadelphia's Hispanic youth through a graffiti exhibition and a community weekend event at Red Bull Can Control.
Locally established graffiti artists from within the Philadelphia community will take the time to mentor local youth for a day of learning, collaborating and most importantly, creating. Red Bull Can Control was created to establish alliances between neighbourhoods and local teens through the unique world of graffiti art. Each established artist will be paired with two aspiring artists hand-chosen by their peers, teachers, and community leaders.
The trios will spend one day trading techniques and collaborating on a design with the theme of “wings.” The next day they will perform a live paint exhibition of their work for the public at Norris Square Park. All work will be done on wooden panels, so no property is defaced. In conjunction with the graffiti exhibition, Red Bull will host a bar-b-q, b-boy competition, tag wall for non-participating local youth and feature AfroTaino’s DJ Rasahn.
Following the event, the pieces will be transported to Latin Art Gallery, where Red Bull will host an opening reception for press and community members. This will be a 2 week exhibition.
Accomplished Philadelphia artists Saga Moor, Esteem, Mad and Deaz.
The lucky art students participating in Red Bull Can Control have been selected by peers, artists and/or community leaders for their talent and willingness to learn.
