Performing Artists

Ozomatli - Ozomatli’s music is a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, meringue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga. The LA culture-mashers consider themselves a voice of their city and citizens of the world.

Mexican Institute of Sound - Camilo Lara began sharing his love of music by making mixes for friends, now five years later he his building upon the momentum of Mexican Institute of Sound’s third release, Soy Sauce. While early M.I.S. songs combined a variety of vintage samples into instrumental tracks, Soy Sauce features almost entirely original songs recorded with a live band and vocals. As the recording and songwriting process has evolved, so has the live show. It has developed from simply “pushing buttons” to incorporating a live drummer, DJ and bassist.

Chico Mann - Chico Mann, aka Marcos García, was born in New York to musically inclined Cuban parents. After learning to speak Afrobeat, albeit with a Cuban accent, Chico Mann has employed several dialects to make a larger musical statement, creating a hybrid of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Afrobeat and classic freestyle that has emerged to be one of the new, vibrant musical styles of today. In his latest release and the first for Wax Poetic Records, Analog Drift, Chico Mann introduces the rhythms of Afrobeat to the music of Cuba, the Latin freestyle flavors of 1980s New York and Miami, and the synth-heavy electro beats of dance floors across the globe.

Toy Selectah - Toy Selectah is the mix-master wizard for Monterrey, Mexico’s hip hop en español pioneers, Control Machete. Since 2001 Toy's been working with his partners in crime Sacha Triujeque, Gus Montalvo and Milkman Botello of the unstoppable Sones del Mexside production crew. Lately he has been galloping the rural rhythms of Colombian-Mexican Cumbias, hip hop, breakbeats and Reggae creating his own trademark sound, live soundsystem and band called Sonidero Nacional. Most recently, he released his Mex Machine EP on Mad Decent.

DJ Pixtu - Resident DJ of Mucho Wednesday’s, the premiere Latin Alternative Dance party in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles at La Cita.
