On Saturday, June 11, 2011 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Rickie Fowler will attempt a shot with no sight line into a constructed island hole inside a fountain at the Georgetown Waterfront (with the Potomac River as a backdrop and winds swirling). It will be a test of precise shot making, while sharpening Fowler’s mental focus as he readies to play Congressional and the U.S. Open.
As part of Red Bull Capital Drive, a hole will be constructed and Fowler’s task is to hit a blind hole-in-one between two buildings, around one fountain hazard - and into an island green placed in another fountain – all amongst hundreds of spectators.
The tee box will be set up at the main entrance to the Georgetown Waterfront. Fowler will need to hit his tee shot through the narrow passage way that leads to the grand fountain that is the epicenter of the property. On each side of the "fairway" are five-story buildings that house some of the most prestigious lawyers and lobbyists in Washington. In addition to the yardage and the narrow passage, Fowler must navigate a smaller water hazard that is 40 yards in front of the tee box.
