Who's the Freestyle King of Houston? Innovative Freestyle Rap Battle Will Send Houston's Champion to Finals in Detroit, Judged by Eminem

Eight of Houston’s top lyrical gladiators will take the stage at Houston’s legendary Numbers concert venue. Top wordsmiths were identified from Texas’ underground monarchy to compete in front of the area’s biggest hip-hop fans, and create a completely unique freestyle battle experience for everyone involved.

The event features Grammy Award winning artist, writer, and emcee, Rhymefest, who will exhibit his own lyrical agility for the crowd, and also serve as one of the battle’s three judges.  Grammy-award winning producer, 9th Wonder, and hip-hop pioneer, Bun B, will also serve as battle judges. D.R.E.S tha BEATnik will host the crowd and Houston’s own DJ Good Grief will serve as the battle’s music conductor, with 9th Wonder keeping the party going to celebrate the coronation of Houston’s Freestyle King.
Red Bull EmSee, the crowning of Houston’s Freestyle King, will be determined by a freestyle rap battle of sight and sound. The national, invitation-only competition boasts a unique format challenging the rapper to execute extemporaneous dexterity in this driven display of the art of freestyle.

Eight emcees battle against each other, the clock, and their mind’s eye as their agility skills are put to the test in this quest for sovereign rights. This elimination style competition  judges emcees in three rounds, each with spontaneous cues inducing the emcees’ flow. In the first round, emcees will be tested on their versatility and speed as five images randomly flash on screen, for the basis of their battle. Four emcees advance to Round Two where the   audience will text words that display on screen serving as the battle’s stimulus. The two finalists reveal their ultimate lyrical ability in a third round, traditional-format freestyle battle.

“I’m looking for somebody to stand out, to be unique and to say the sickest, most ridiculous, most retarded s#%! you can say, something that makes somebody want to quit,” explained Eminem. To hear what else he has to say about the contest check out: Red Bull Emsee: The Road to 8 Mile.

The three rounds will be judged by Swamburger, Drect, and Brother Ali. And lending their talents to the Red Bull Emsee stage are hosts D.R.E.S tha BEATnik and Madd Illz.
