One name has ruled BMX Street at the X Games since the discipline was introduced in 2008, and that’s Garrett Reynolds. Garrett has won five consecutive X Games gold medals from 2008 to 2012, one of only a small handful of athletes with such a consistent victory streak. During those same years, he also won five-in-a-row Ride BMX Magazine NORA Cup Awards for Street Rider of the Year.
He’s no one-trick BMX rider, though; Garrett also rides BMX Park, which he’s been competing in at an elite level since he was a 14-year-old phenom from Toms River, New Jersey. “I don’t consider myself to have just one discipline,” Garrett says. “I just like riding.” He even earned the year-end Dew Tour Park title in 2009.
In 2011, he co-founded his own BMX brand called Fiend, which he runs alongside his pro career.
