About Grete
Grete Eliassen knows no bounds in skiing. She’s one of the best all-around skiers today; she’s raced for the Norwegian ski team, won the X Games SuperPipe and U.S. Open Slopestyle multiple times, designed signature pro-model skis and filmed lines in the backcountry. Through it all, Grete’s made sure to do it on her terms, keeping her love for the sport intact and thriving.
“I love the sound of my skis gliding through the snow,” she says. “And when I put my skis on, it’s all about having fun.” With fun as her number one objective, Grete has been able to progress naturally, resulting in a constant evolution of what she can accomplish.
As if proof of her innate talent is needed, she walked into the Winter X Games in 2005 as a first-time competitor and away as “Female Innovator of the Games.” She’s known for her versatility and smooth style, no doubt attributed to her desire to ski everything. “There aren’t too many girls out there who have had such a huge background in skiing,” she says. “But mainly I think I’m known for being out there to have fun every day.”
With a trophy closet full of medals, the Minnesota-born Norwegian is now evolving her skiing again in the Utah backcountry while studying business management at the University of Utah. But skiing isn’t all there is to Grete. When off the hill, she can be found wake surfing at home in Minnesota, volunteering in Afghanistan, traveling the world or on ski trips with friends.
