Red Bull Tum Tum Pa Rules
The Drumming Competition from the desk. At RED BULL TUM TUM PA it’s the pens and pencils that give the beat -- never ordinary instruments.
Teams of up to four students are allowed to use only commercial teaching and office supplies for their creative percussion performance.
Possible instruments may include: pens, pencils, books, bags, scissors, erasers or Red Bull cans. There is no limit to your creativity – choose whatever suits your rhythm best. Maybe the sound of your laptop snapping shut is the right sound for your performance?
We’re kicking regular drums, bongos and digital drum’n’bass out the door. Please note that participants are not allowed to sing, use beatbox skills, traditional instruments or electrically created sound.
At the competition itself, one team after another shows their talent in two 60-second challenges:
1) Round 1 - “The Cover”: A well-known hit, communicated to the jury in advance, needs to be performed for 60 seconds.
2) Round 2 - “The Original Composition”: Teams show all their creativity during their 60-second time – there are no limits whatsoever – free genre, free style. It’s all right as long as it rocks the crowd!
After each round, the jury rates the performance. Both challenges will be separately judged in the categories of rhythm, creativity and audience interaction (the way people respond and how the group interacts with the audience). You can score between 1 point (poor) and 10 points (brilliant). The maximum number of points you can reach is 60 (30 points per challenge).
The team with the highest score wins the competition. Five winning teams from the United States will be sent to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to compete in the World Finals!
